Do I Have To Take A Shower After PE?
We do have showers in the locker room, but if you take regular showers at home, wear clean clothes, and use deodorant after PE—there should be no reason to use them!
What Do I Have to Have/Wear for PE Class?
"Dressing Down" for PE is now optional, but it is required that you are wearing clothing & footwear that allows you to fully participate in class activities. If your regular classroom clothing allows you to run, jump, participate with no restrictions - you do not have to change clothing for PE class. You will have a PE locker checked out to you and we highly recommend that you keep a t-shirt, shorts/pants, socks, and athletic shoes in that locker for those days when your regular classroom clothing may not allow for full participation.
Below are some explanations & pictures that explain what you may want to have in your PE locker as a back up to ensure you can participate in PE class.
T-Shirt (or KSD PE Shirt)
We do sell PE shirts that can be used - shirts can be ordered from the main office for $8.00. Order forms will be sent out with your class schedule in August and be given out during the first week of school.
Shorts/Pants
Athletic shorts, sweats, or yoga pants allow for full movement in class. Shorts should follow the school dress code and students should keep in mind that they will be participating in physical activity.
Athletic Shoes
Many students find it helpful to have a spare pair of athletic shoes in their locker for days when you wear shoes that cannot be worn for PE class (like flip flops, sandals, boots, or slides).
Socks
Like with athletic shoes, many students keep spare socks in their locker for when they are needed.
Deodorant
Small trial sized deodorants or deodorant wipes can be purchased at most stores and fit easily inside student's PE lockers. PLEASE NO AEROSOLS, as it can activate many students allergies.
Lock Is Not Necessary
Combination locks will be provided for students to use on their PE locker or a 2 pack of locks with identical combos (for gym and main locker) can be purchased from the school office for use.
**ONLY LOCKS borrowed/purchased from DHMS can be used on PE lockers - teachers must have key access for quick change emergencies.
