STEAM Resources

Download and print the attached template and follow along with our kiaʻi loko iʻa on the video as they build a Life Cycle Wheel for the ʻamaʻama.

Tips for success: There are enough spaces for 6 stages of growth. Our video offers the life cycle of the ʻamaʻama from egg to adult, but there are many other examples you and your keiki could use (growth of a plant from seed to tree; the growth of a bird from egg to adult; the growth of a coral reef from single polyp to atoll).

This wheel could also be used to describe other cycles or natural phenomena as well (the water cycle; types of cloud formations; plant leaf identification). We find that we have the most success with the wheel when printed on cardstock, but you could also glue the template printed on regular paper onto paper plates. Don’t tie the beads and string too tight or your top cover will not spin. Use your imagination and have fun!
