Efficacy of Engagement

The capacity to engage learners and other stakeholders in an effective manner to improve outcomes.

Our school system uses PBiS with classroom expectations. This should ensure that our students are informed as to the expectations in the classrooms. Along with PBiS we have added the Check-in Check-Out System with some of our students.

Our school system has online grading with Infinite Campus as well as Canvas. This should allow the students the opportunity to be aware of their grades and the possibility of review with the use of Canvas. We do have Smart Boards in all the classrooms and some have a set of Chromebooks to help the students get their work done. We have Blended Education in some of the high school and junior high math classes. The students have access to instructional math videos on each of the math concepts. This has enabled the students to utilize technology while learning their math concepts. We utilize the Distance Leaning Lab to expand our class offerings to the students. We currently offer Economics/Psychology, Medical Terminology, College Algebra, and German 1. In addition, the District provides online courses to students through Florida Virtual Schools (FLVS) for more advanced curricula not currently offered. Courses include AP Calculus and AP Computer Science. FLVS is also utilized to provide courses for credit recovery and summer school.

Some other student opportunities include Chess Club, Mathcounts (Advanced Math Competition), Science Club, Quiz Bowl, and TeamMates, a Community Mentoring Program. We also provide our students the chance to be student teaching assistants and other tutoring opportunities. We are in the process of utilizing the TestWiz program, a teacher/student formative assessment concept tool. Our juniors and seniors are encouraged to participate in the John Baylor 'On to College' ACT Preparation Program as well.

In an attempt to reach out to our parents and patrons, we have City Link. This is a Community Broadcast System we use to share sporting events and music concerts. We also have a School Display System in our student center sharing upcoming events and photos of past events. Our school website helps inform students, parents and patrons of school events and other information.

We have 20 Hitachi Starboard, Interactive Whiteboards and 2 Promethean Activboard, Interactive Whiteboards at the JHHS.

At the Jr/Sr High School there are 178 Teacher and Classroom Chromebooks across general and special education. There are 106 computers (Dekstops/Laptops) for student use at the JHHS, this does not include teacher computers. There are iPads in use by some staff, but these have not been directly used as learning specific tools.

Distance Learning; JHHS has a dedicated Distance Learning room. It is operated by a number of pieces of equipment. The core is a Polycom RealPresence 700. We also have a Polycom DL Cart system. This is used daily. We maintain the system with support from ESU13.
