FOREST OF READING 2020 WINNERS!

The 2020 winners are:

Blue Spruce Award: That's Not Hockey! by Andrée Poulin, illustrated by Félix Girard

Silver Birch Express Award: Megabat by Anna Humphrey, illustrated by Kass Reich

Silver Birch Fiction Award: The Mystery of Black Hollow Lane by Julia Nobel

Yellow Cedar Award: Too Young to Escape by Van Ho & Marsha Forchuk Skrypuch

Red Maple Award: No Fixed Address by Susin Nielsen

Over 110,000 people voted in this contest by the Ontario Library Association. That is a lot of reading fans!

If you would like to know more about each book, click on the award. CBC broadcast the awards ceremony. You can watch replays of all the ceremonies here. The festival was cancelled due to COVID-19.

Great news! For students in Grades 3 to 8 who wish to read more fabulous novels from the Forest of Reading, almost all of them can be found on the SORA app in our Virtual Library. If you read five or more in a category, you can vote for your favourite one on the Forest of Reading website. Who knows, maybe your pick will winJ

How to get to SORA:

Way 1: The Virtual Library https://kprdsb.libguides.com/4-6.

Go to ebooks, choose SORA.

Way 2: Go to the KPR website, choose student tab, then “KPR Students Portal”, choose the Virtual Library.

Way 3: Download the free SORA app onto a tablet or smartphone.

The set-up code is kawarthaca. Then, search for the book you want to read. Some are audible books too.
