Students will demonstrate an understanding of place value by reading, representing, composing, and decomposing whole numbers up to 10,000.
Sample Problem: Write the number 4,582 in expanded form.
Comparing and Ordering Numbers
Students will compare and order whole numbers up to 10,000.
Sample Problem: Arrange the following numbers in ascending order: 3,456; 9,234; 1,987; 4,321.
Rounding Numbers
Students will round whole numbers to the nearest ten, hundred, or thousand.
Sample Problem: Round 7,684 to the nearest hundred.
Addition and Subtraction
Students will use strategies to add and subtract whole numbers up to 10,000, including regrouping.
Sample Problem: Subtract 5,432 from 8,765.
Multiplication and Division
Students will demonstrate an understanding of multiplication and division concepts by solving problems involving multiplication of two-digit numbers by one-digit numbers and dividing whole numbers by one-digit divisors.
Sample Problem: Multiply 23 by 4.
Fractions
Students will read, represent, compare, and order fractions, and demonstrate an understanding of equivalent fractions.
Sample Problem: Which fraction is larger, 3/4 or 2/3?
Financial Literacy
Subsections:
Money Concepts
Students will identify various Canadian coins and bills up to $50 and compare their values.
Sample Problem: If you have a $20 bill, a $10 bill, and two $5 bills, how much money do you have in total?
Financial Management
Students will explain the concepts of spending, saving, earning, investing, and donating, and identify key factors to consider when making basic decisions related to each.
Sample Problem: Create a simple budget for saving up for a new book that costs $15.
Consumer and Civic Awareness
Students will describe the types of taxes collected by different levels of government and explain how tax revenue is used to provide services in the community.
Sample Problem: List two services provided by the government that are funded by taxes.
