As part of our RE topic this term on Sikhism, Year 3 will be visiting the Brent Gurdwara on Friday 6th June.
The trip is free.
We will be leaving school promptly after the morning register and return after lunch time; children will finish school at normal time.
Your child(ren) will need to bring a packed lunch, as we will be stopping for a picnic lunch on the way back. Please can children bring lunch in a plastic bag so that it can be thrown away after lunch (so the children have less to carry home). They will also need a water bottle.
All children will need to cover their heads in the Gurdwara so must bring a scarf, bandana or sensible hat to wear when we arrive, and children should wear suitable shoes for walking (trainers are fine- it’s quite a long walk).
Class 3DOM will still have PE that day so should wear their PE kit as normal.
If you would like to volunteer to walk with us to and from Gurdwara, please speak with your class teacher.
We are very excited to announce a trip to Forest School for all children in Year 3. The children will spend the day working in the woods learning how to build a shelter, about nature, tracking and a lot of other outdoor activities.
The children will not need to wear their school uniforms on the day that they go but will need to wear old clothes that you do not mind getting dirty and muddy. It is important that they wear sturdy footwear (trainers are fine) and sunscreen on these days.
We will be eating lunch at Forest School and the children will need to bring a packed lunch from home that day along with their regular fruit snack and water bottle. If your child requires a school packed lunch, they will be able to order one from their class teacher 3 weeks before their trip.
The dates for going are as follows:
Monday 2nd June - 3AA
Monday 9th June - 3DB
Monday 16th June - 3DOM
To cover the cost of the trip, we are asking all children to pay a voluntary contribution of £20.80. This covers both the cost of attending Forest School and the coach to and from school.
Please make payment using the Arbor App: Trips -> Forest School.
If you have any questions about the trip, please do not hesitate to ask one of the Year 3 teachers.
Kind regards,
Mrs Mitchell
Year 3 Group Leader
To complement our study of the Vikings, we have invited History Off the Page to provide a Life in Viking Britain Day in the school on Wednesday 7th May.
History Off the Page is a company that provides immersive and practical History, Science and Literature workshops to schools.
The cost of the day is £9.80. Please make payments in the Arbor app: Trips -> Life in Viking Britain Day
The workshop, which will take place in the school hall during normal school hours, will give us a feeling of what it was like to live during the year 878 AD in Britain. Your child will experience life as it would have been living in the year 878 AD at the time of the Battle of Edington. They will learn about the issues of the time, with the opportunity to participate in a range of cross-curricular activities and crafts. The children will keep and take home the items they have made during the day.
A simple costume will help your child feel part of the day. Please see the photos below for some ideas.
In order to make the day run smoothly, we will need 5 parent volunteers to help with the running of activities. If you are able to volunteer, please speak with your class teacher.
Best wishes,
Mrs Mitchell, Mrs Dorricott, Mrs Bell and Mrs Akhtar
The Year 3 Team
We have arranged a visit from Teaching Talons, a multi-award winning family run animal encounters mobile zoo on Thursday 7th November.
The children will be treated to an unforgettable learning experience in the School Hall - meeting and handling native and exotic animals and birds. The workshops are linked to our Geography, Science and Literacy curriculum, where the children will be learning about animal adaptations and also writing reports.
The cost of this activity is £3.60. Payment can now be made in the Trips section of the Arbor app.
Please ensure to make payment by Friday, 18th October. If insufficient contributions are received, then the activity may not be able to take place.
Experiences such as this are invaluable to the children’s development, both educationally and culturally, so we thank you for your continued support.
