My career in mental health began in 2004 while I was an undergraduate student, working with children and families. That early experience sparked my passion for becoming a therapist. I went on to earn my master’s degree in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy in 2009.
For the first 10 years of my career, I focused on working primarily with children and families. Over the past 10 years, I have shifted my focus to working with adults and couples, expanding my expertise in supporting relationship dynamics and individual growth.
Over the past 20 years, I’ve had the privilege of working in a variety of settings, including hospitals, schools, private homes, community agencies, and private practice, gaining experience with diverse populations and clinical needs.
I stay current with evolving therapeutic approaches by attending ongoing trainings, reading widely, consulting with colleagues, and engaging with the professional community through social media.

I am currently licensed to practice therapy in Illinois.
I value the plurality of the world and the diverse expressions of humanity, I recognize and embrace the unique qualities that each individual brings to our world, be it background, ethnicity, race, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, ability, religion, socioeconomic status, or any other aspect that shapes each person's identity. Not only have I worked with individuals from various backgrounds, I have professional training in providing therapeutic care to various diverse populations. In my personal life I have friends from all walks of life. I find this diversity to be life enriching and creates thoughtful perspectives I wouldn't be able to have on my own. I am a proud queer ally and neurodiverse affirming therapist.
I’m a second-generation American with parents and siblings who came to the U.S. as refugees from Vietnam. That background shaped much of who I am, along with the pressures to succeed, the cultural clashes, the weight of intergenerational trauma, and a lingering sense of being an outsider.
Growing up was challenging. During my third year of college, I sought therapy for anxiety. My first session, through the university counseling center, was a turning point. It gave me insight, perspective, and a sense of relief I still remember to this day.
Since then, I’ve returned to therapy at different points in my life to work through anxiety, self-esteem, identity, trauma, life transitions, and grief. I value personal growth and believe change is inevitable, the question is whether we choose to grow with intention or let life happen to us. For me, therapy has been a space to grow, reflect, and build a more peaceful and fulfilling life.
I have been married for over 20 years in an interracial, inter-religious heterosexual relationship, and together we raise two wonderful kids and two lively dogs. My family life enriches my understanding of relationships, cultural dynamics, and the everyday challenges and joys that shape us.
I’ve found great comfort in having a space where I can talk about whatever is on my mind and receive unconditional support. That experience shapes how I show up as a therapist. One of my professors once said, “A therapist can only help a client grow as much as they themselves have grown. So every therapist needs a good therapist.” I’ve carried that with me ever since.
Professionally, I believe it’s essential to know what it’s like to sit in the client’s seat: to experience the vulnerability, the breakthroughs, and even the discomfort that can come with real emotional work. Therapy has taught me that change happens when we’re ready and willing to try something new. And that it’s most effective when we feel safe, heard, supported, and challenged in the right ways.
