This session will expand participants' knowledge on the components of social emotional learning and give practical strategies for immediate implementation to create an effective classroom environment for all learners.
Al Scharrer: Talent Coach
Al has been connected with CfUT since 2014 when he initially served as a summer school principal, and he officially joined the team in 2017. Prior to joining the CfUT team, Al Scharrer has impacted youth ranging from 6 - 15 years old through a variety of teaching and coaching experiences in Southeastern Wisconsin. He taught grades 5-8 while in Kenosha and then moved to Milwaukee where he discovered a passion for urban education and worked with children in third grade. He also coached middle school soccer while he was teaching in Milwaukee and had the opportunity to lead them to earn the first soccer trophy in school history when his team placed second in the division. Al has also taught middle school science and served as a Dean of Students. In 2019, Al received his Master’s in Leadership and Innovation degree from Wisconsin Lutheran College.
After over a decade in the classroom and leading students, Al continues to be passionate about developing the next generation of teachers, and the implications of school culture as a root cause of delivering the academic gains and character development our youth need. Outside of his work at CfUT, Al enjoys spending time with his wife Molly and their twelve children.
Grace Marquardt: Talent Recruiter and Developer
Grace joined the CfUT team as a Talent Recruiter and Developer in 2021. She graduated from Martin Luther College in 2019 and is currently pursuing her Masters Degree in Leadership and Innovation from Wisconsin Lutheran College, in partnership with the Center for Urban Teaching. Prior to joining CfUT, Grace served students in Milwaukee at Siloah Lutheran School and St. Philips Lutheran School. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her husband John and family.
