Guiding Questions

1. Would this information be helpful to someone who is unfamiliar with the topic?

2. Does the student display a general understanding of the topic? In-depth knowledge?

3. How does the knowledge offer a solution to the student’s research problem?

4. Does the student provide a synthesis of multiple ideas?

5. In what ways does the student represent different points of view?

6. Does the evidence gathered support the student’s hypothesis?

7. How does the student support new understandings and generalizations?

Time to ask yourself, "What does it all mean?"

1) Gather all of your notes and data and read over them

2) Have you answered your research questions?

3) What patterns or trends do you notice? Can you organize the information into themes?

4) What big ideas do you get from the information?

5) What new ideas or thoughts do you have about the topic that you did not have when you started researching?
