The Northern European Network for Wood Science and Engineering started in 2004. After 21 successful meetings in 10 different partner countries, WSE has become a well-established platform for researchers from various fields of wood science and engineering. The Latvian State Institute of Wood Chemistry is one of the leading lignocellulosic biomass research centres in the Baltic region. The institute combines long standing scientific traditions and modern approaches to studies of wood and other biomass conversion.
