Year 4 Ancient Greek Festival
Last week, Year 4 students wrapped up their exciting unit on Ancient Greece. Over the past 10 weeks, they explored daily life in Ancient Greece, learned about the birth of democracy, and studied powerful Greek states. They even acted out myths, bringing the tales of Greek gods to life! To celebrate their learning, we hosted our own Year 4 Olympics with four main events: arm wrestling, a 196-meter run, javelin throw, and long jump. Congratulations to our winners, who were awarded a special “golden” homework pass instead of a traditional gold wreath. Since the Ancient Greeks loved to celebrate with food, we finished with a mini Greek feast, featuring olives, bread, cheese, honey, fruits, and vegetables. The students were thrilled, closing out the unit with full bellies and memories to cherish!

Year 3's Adventure: Learning and Bonding in the Heart of Nature
Year 3 students experienced their first taste of outdoor education this past week, with many spending their first night away from home. It was an unforgettable adventure, connecting classroom learning to the real world through visits to a rainforest and the source of the River Nile. The children explored the lush, vibrant environment, enhanced by rainfall the previous day, which brought the jungle to life. They learned about the diverse plant and animal life, gaining hands-on experience that deepened their understanding of ecosystems. More than just an educational trip, it was an opportunity for students to bond with their classmates, building teamwork and creating lasting memories.

Trip to Lake Mburo National Park
Risk-taking, open-mindedness, inquiry, and reflective thinking, among other essential skills, were prominently demonstrated during the Year 5 outdoor educational trip last week. The students embarked on a journey to Lake Mburo National Park—a novel experience for Year 5—and engaged in a diverse array of activities, from hiking to the Eclipse Monument and delving into Ugandan history, to an early morning game drive within the national park.
Throughout the three-day expedition, the students encountered a wealth of new experiences, most of which demanded considerable courage. They engaged in farming, took a boat ride amidst numerous schools of hippos, and disembarked from the bus to observe giraffes in their natural habitat up close. In addition to gaining profound insights into the world, students experienced the excitement of sleeping five hours away from home and forging closer connections with their teachers and classmates over the three days. This trip undoubtedly enriched our understanding of one another and fostered bonds that transcended our expectations.

Pupil Pottery inspired by Groovy Greeks
Year 4 students enjoyed a wonderful time at Vision For Africa’s African Village Hotel in Mukono. Upon arrival, students split up into four huts each with an animal theme. The students enjoyed social dorm style rooms which promoted cooperation and caring. We toured the expansive grounds, seeing the swimming pool, cafe, football pitch and basketball courts as well as the potter and carpentry workshops.
Using the wondrous powers of communication, the class organised themselves by birth date without uttering a word - pushing them to find new ways to understand each other.
The students created their own pottery (just like the Ancient Greeks!) and glazed their creations with pictures and symbols that represent their values.
While not being potters, we put our skills of cooperation to the test with relay races and preliminary competitions for our Year 4 Olympics.
At night, we shared our original dramas and roasted marshmallows over a campfire. Year 4 students know how to squeeze in every opportunity to dance and have fun.
