2CN Scientists Explore Materials!
Year 2CN students have successfully completed their exciting Science unit on Materials, their Properties, and their Everyday Uses.
The focus of the unit was understanding that every object is made of a specific material chosen for its unique properties. The children conducted various hands-on investigations to test these properties. They explored:
Absorbency: They tested whether different materials, like sponges and plastic, would soak up water or repel it.
Flexibility: They compared rubber bands and wooden rulers to see which were bendy and which were rigid.
Transparency: They held up items to the light to determine if they were clear (like glass) or opaque (like wood). And many more!
By comparing the strength of metal versus the softness of fabric, they learned why a particular material is the best choice for a specific job—like using metal for car frames for strength, or cotton for towels for absorbency. They realized that science governs the design of everything around us!
They crowned off the unit with a memorable trip to the local Science Discovery Centre. This visit allowed them to see many of the concepts they learned applied on a much larger scale, making the connection between their classroom experiments and the real world concrete.

Months of Celebrations!
This month, our KS1 students have worked exceptionally hard and engaged in a variety of hands-on activities, including colouring, cutting, gluing, and pasting. They created beautiful Ugandan flag collages as well as vibrant and fascinating rangolis and diyas. Well done to all the students for their creativity and dedication. I am truly proud of each one of you!

After the half-term break, Year 2 began an enchanting new journey into the world of fantasy stories — starting with a magical tale from China, The Magic Brush. When pupils entered the classroom, they discovered a mysterious table set with red balloons, scrolls, and a globe pointing to China. Their curiosity sparked instantly!
A special message read: “This brush can bring your drawing to life. Handle with care…” The children were captivated — could the brush really be magic? They discussed what they would paint if they had a brush with such power, sharing imaginative ideas ranging from dragons and castles to chocolate fountains!
Later, they read The Magic Brush together and explored how stories use imagination, setting, and powerful messages. Pupils reflected on what they liked most, posting thoughtful comments on our story wall and making connections to kindness, courage, and creativity.
This magical start to our fantasy unit has inspired wonder and excitement — we can’t wait to see the worlds our young writers will create next!

Year 1’s Wonderful Trip to CTC!
On Monday 7th October, our Year 1 pupils set off on a very special adventure to CTC, and what a fantastic day it turned out to be! From the moment they arrived, there was excitement in the air as the children explored the park and got up close with some truly amazing animals.
One of the day’s highlights was feeding the zebras. The children were thrilled to offer the zebras their snacks and see their soft noses and stripy faces up close — a truly magical experience! There were plenty of smiles (and giggles) as the zebras gently nibbled the food.
Next came an unforgettable moment — meeting the lion cubs. The children had the incredible opportunity to hold and gently stroke the cubs under the watchful eye of the park guides. It was heartwarming to see how gentle and caring the children were as they learned about how these little lions grow and are cared for.
After a morning full of animal encounters, everyone enjoyed a delicious picnic lunch alongside the giraffes and tortoises. The giraffes towered gracefully above, munching on leaves, while the tortoises ambled peacefully nearby — a perfect backdrop for a relaxed and memorable lunch.
The trip was not only a day of fun but also a wonderful learning experience. The children gained a deeper appreciation for wildlife, habitats, and the importance of caring for animals and our environment.
