Don't forget half term - Thursday 15th & Friday 16th February
Dear KISU family
There is a time and a season for everything under the sun and so it’s time for me to say goodbye to KISU. I’ll leave towards the end of this month as a family situation has arisen which necessitates my full time presence at home.
It’s been wonderful being a part of the loving, caring, vibrant environment at KISU. Some of the special events I’ve witnessed have been the visit to the school by H. E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni who was the Guest of Honour at the end of year Awards Assembly; the special assembly where Jane Goodall spoke about her work with gorillas; the amazing Assembly where Nick Vujicic totally inspired us to achieve our dreams and the special Assembly where Dr Sudhir Ruparelia was interviewed by DP students and we picked tips on how to be successful in business; and another special Assembly with Stephen Kiprotich after he won the London Marathon in 2012. What a feel-good day that was and how proud we were to be Ugandan!
I’ll never forget looking up from my desk in the previous campus to see the Kabaka of Buganda standing there with his retinue, having come for the Parent Teacher Meeting of his daughter Princess “Sanga” as we called her. I backed out of the office and fled to inform the teacher to be prepared to receive royalty! Later on during the same term the Queen of Buganda HRH Sylvia Nagginda arrived for an assembly and, much as she never stood on ceremony at KISU, I dashed to borrow a high backed chair from Kabira Country Club as I couldn’t see her sitting on a bench like us commoners! Years later, the Queen graced us with her presence as she officially opened the LEGO Innovation Studio in our new campus after making a brilliant speech which ended with “at KISU where you educate today’s children for tomorrow’s world”. That made me think – we should be using our tag line!
It’s been super to see KISU grow and develop from the small, wooden buildings with only Primary to the modern structures and facilities available now. My greatest pleasure has been to watch kids who have joined KISU in Kindergarten graduate with an IB Diploma and then go on to Uni and working life. It’s always so good to see former students when they visit, especially when they return with their success stories.
I’d like to thank the Chairman Dr Sudhir Ruparelia, the Board and Director of KISU Mr Lee Wilson for the opportunity to work at KISU. It’s been a pleasure working with the multicultural staff and interacting with parents from all walks of life. Special thanks to Admin and support staff including Daman Sachdeva, Tracy Hathorn, Bavakasim, Ali Nousath, Sam Obura, Doreen Auma, Anna Mbonigaba, Faith Tuhumwire, Jolly Kusemererwa, Olive Buga, Doreen Nassiwa, Shamsa Atuhaire, Claire Adiyo, Tracy Nakajubi, Sirajje Ndauwula and Johnson Masereka who countless times, dropped everything to come and sort out a computer glitch. Oh… and not forgetting Robert Buga who was always very supportive. Sorry I cannot mention each and everyone by name, but I do thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
I’ll always treasure KISU children who are like my children and grandchildren. It’s always lovely when Oscar or Amaanya walk in and say “Hi, Miss Rose!” I’ll definitely miss being a part of the school but will always carry KISU in my heart.
I end by wishing you all the very best for the future.
Warm regards
Rose Olule.
