Coming closer to the end of their Unit on plants, our Year 2 students made a study trip to the Orchard Camp Farm with the aim of enhancing their learning on Plant Growth and development. They were able to observe a variety of plants at different stages of growth and development. They engaged in hands on activities, handling seedlings, picking fruits and preparing them for consumption as food.
In addition to their plant farming experience, they were assigned an independent Science study project to further investigate “How Plants Grow from Seeds and Bulbs”. This was to consolidate what we have covered in class but more so to engender independent inquiry and critical thinking. Their reports range from; Fact File documents, 3D-Models, Power Point Presentations, posters and collages.
Through this project the Year 2s have been able to further develop their natural curiosity and higher order thinking skills even outside the classroom which is key to promoting lifelong learners.

This week, the children in Year 1MN had a very exciting task. They wrote letters to Santa Claus! They told Santa how good they have been this year, sharing all the ways they have been kind, helpful, and hard-working. Each child also made a wish list to send. Some wished for new toys, others for books, and a few even asked for surprises! Everyone made sure to write their letters carefully, using neat handwriting and kind words. The class cannot wait to see if their wishes come true!

November has been an engaging month, and I’m excited to share some pictures of our journey. During Health week we invited our school nurse, Ms. Claire, who taught us about hygiene and how to care for our minds and bodies. Our lessons took us beyond the classroom as we explored the campus with a focus on the sense of hearing, drawing what ears could hear but eyes could not see. Our IT sessions have also been fun, where the children learned to give simple commands to program Beebots and help them navigate.
We got rolling into the Christmas mood with our fiction story 'Harvey Slumfenburger's Christmas Present', retelling it using story map and Talk for Write actions. The students also spent time writing letters to Father Christmas and decorating a Christmas tree with their handcrafted artwork. To top it off, we enjoyed a special photo at Santa's Grotto setup at school.
While November has ended, our energy remains high as we continue to work hard on our Key Stage 1 Production, which will take place on December 11th. Stay tuned!
