Service As Action (SAA) is a principal constituent of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP). It aims to develop responsible global citizens who would have a positive impact on society and the environment.
Service As Action requires students to engage with their local community through service initiatives and experience opportunities to explore, design, implement, and reflect on their efforts.
By involving themselves in various Service As Action initiatives, students are encouraged to become more confident, self-regulated learners. It also enables students to connect what they learn in school with the world beyond the classroom. They not only learn the value of community participation but also gain a deeper understanding of the issues facing their immediate surroundings.
Service As Action initiatives will emphasize:
Developing community awareness and concern.
Learning to balance social, academic, and recreational avenues while maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Becoming independent.
Developing skills needed to make an effective contribution to society, through personal reflection, resilience, and collaborative work.
Through the different Service As Action initiatives, students will be able to:
Help the school, and local and international communities.
Apply academic, personal, and social skills to improve the community.
Develop awareness towards making a positive difference in the lives of others.
Be responsible citizens by increasing their awareness and understanding of the world.
Discover and develop new skills, talents, and interests.
Develop themselves as leaders who would actively take up initiatives.
