Soyeon Chae
Soyeon is a senior at KISJ and this is her 4th year attending KISJ. She is interested in learning languages, especially Chinese, and values honesty and happiness. She is interested in writing about humanitarian issues and daily life topics for Journalism since she enjoys delivering news to others. The role she’d want to take on in journalism for her audience is to become a journalist who the readers will frequently find for her own articles.
Jenny Hong
Jenny is a current senior at KISJ. She transferred to Korea International School Jeju in 10th grade. Her academic interests mostly revolve around the study of mathematics, as she will continue to pursue her interest in university as a Mathematics in Engineering major. Her love of mathematics has three primary aspects: the beauty of abstract problem-solving, the practical powers of mathematics, and her determination to help spread the passion for mathematics. For journalism, Jenny hopes to write about articles not only about mathematics but also topics that students can resonate and question by taking interest in as an individual. As a journalist, she hopes to bring accountable information to the audience effectively.
Branden
Branden is now a senior at KISJ continuing his third year in KISJ. Branden enjoys studying mathematics and chemistry. Also, he loves to play ice hockey and currently plays as a member of South Korea national team. As a journalist, he would like to write about sports related news by telling interesting sports information to the readers. So, he would take a position as an informer in terms of journalism.
Jeselle L.
Jeselle is a senior at Korea International School Jeju and is in her 4th year. She is interested in different fields of academics, including English, Theatre, and Film. Outside of school, she likes to spend time reading, listening to music, and writing screenplays. In Journalism, she is excited to write articles about social justice, art, and literature in order to share her interests with readers.
Sujin
Sujin Moon is a Grade 12 student and has been in KISJ for three and a half years now. She’s interested in chemistry and art. Of all traits, she values honesty the most. She is interested in writing about CHATGPT and events going on in the KISJ community. She wants to be a humorous journalist who has the ability to draw the audience’s attention to her articles.
Suyeon is a senior at KISJ, and she attended there for about 3.5 years. She loves singing in the choir and making 3D art pieces from classes. She always tries to remind others to be honest and respect others and herself. In journalism, she hopes to write about issues that happen around the KISJ community and wants to be a journalist that can share humor and beneficial information.
Avery is a senior at KISJ this year, and it is her 7th year in total. She loves music as she is a cello and piano player and she is a passionate student who takes every task seriously. She is willing to study and write about topics related to psychology and social interaction between people. Her bucket list includes traveling to every country, as she highly values the experiences that widen her view of the world. She is excited to let the KISJ community know about interesting social experiences based on her observations that are not easily noticed by students and teachers.
Bruno is a junior at KISJ, and has been enrolled in KISJ for 5 years. His major interests are in music and literature; he either listens to music or reads in his free time. He wants to deliver relevant and meaningful information to his audience while expressing his opinions on various issues and looking at things from different perspectives. He wants his articles to be directed toward various people in the school.
Cora is currently a senior at KISJ. She joined the KISJ community in 2016 and this is her seventh year. She enjoys reading in her spare time and writing stories. As someone who grew up very close to nature, Cora also loves animals and learning about various insects. Recently she started pursuing an interest in art; although most of her works feature a fine arts style, she aspires to be an animator in the near future. While Cora is not knowledgeable about celebrities, outside of class, she spends most of her time surfing the internet and digging into celebrity issues and news. She had participated in a club known as DRAGONS Mosaic writing about teenage relationships and peer pressure. As a side note, she also took the opportunity to contribute to the Dragons Dispatch, writing about her own experiences in relation to friendship problems. In addition to improving as a writer, Cora wants to learn how to write about controversial topics in a non-offensive manner. With this prior experience, Cora hopes to write more articles related to common social problems and other psychological issues that are common amongst teenagers such as procrastination and conformity.
Ami S.
Ami is a sophomore at Korea International School, Jeju campus. She joined a year ago as a freshman, in January 2022. She is interested in psychology, the Korean language and literature, and philosophy. She will usually write about people, such as a phenomena in the society she could discover during school days. Considering timelines, she will write to give information on recent events that have occurred related to our KISJ community, and to focus on the news that the majority of the students will be interested in. As a journalist, she is going to be the expeditious informer for the readers, with accuracy that readers can trust. Look forward to reading her writing!
Jea Y. is a senior at Korea International School Jeju campus. She enrolled in the Fall of 2015, making this year her eighth year at KISJ. She is interested in interior design and filmmaking. She loves to watch movies and dramas multiple times. She never gets an absence or a single tardy in class, making her a prepared student for study. Her personal goal is to become a 1% better person every day. In journalism, she is interested in topics of politics, economy, and society in South Korea and internationally. She wants to become a journalist that writes the most accurate and reliable piece of information for the community.
James C. is currently a senior at Korea International School Jeju (KISJ). James joined KISJ in 2020, and this is his third year at KISJ. James enjoys studying subjects related to mathematics, particularly statistics. Along with mathematics, he is also passionate about soccer. For journalism, he is interested in writing about not only the soccer team, but also other sports events such as volleyball or basketball. As a sports enthusiast, he wants to give updates about KISJ athletics to the public community and encourage students to hit the gym and get fit!
Sumin is a senior at KISJ this year. He enjoys delving deeply into various topics, such as science, philosophy, etc. His curiosity doesn’t let him just assume beliefs and matter as they are, but to critically question them until they make sense to him. In Journalism class, he hopes to improve his skills of expression, so that he can express many of the complex ideas he has in the future. Also, he hopes to touch on a diverse range of fields around the world, while he researches controversial topics that affect our lives. Being a very critical person, he will unravel the truth or reason behind widespread yet uncertain beliefs, cases or claims or phenomena and therefore clarify any concerns people may have on particular issues. He wishes that the articles he writes may serve as a fact-checking tool in the midst of chaos of doubts.
Yelim is a sophomore at KISJ. She is a new addition to the KISJ community and is still learning her way through school. She loves to express her opinions and to share her knowledge. She takes part in teaching children the English language and aims to teach them to write as well. She is interested in global politics, human rights, and sports. As a journalist, she hopes to provide the audience with trustworthy, entertaining, and informative journalism pieces.
Charlie is a junior approaching his 6th year at KISJ. His major interests are humanities and sports. He is interested in learning about how to construct a quick but informative piece with recent news. He wants to be a journalist who provides his audience with the most recent news. Charlie’s work would be the most accurate, amusing, but truthful pieces of information. He is a journalist who is willing to inspire people with his work.
Evelyn, who has been attending school in Jeju for seven years, is a new rising journalist in KISJ. She started her KISJ school life in freshman year. She is a passionate student who wills to work in the field of art management and commerce, traveling worldwide for more artistic and aesthetic innovation. As an officer of the school dance club LOA, she is interested in current issues about the K-pop market and celebrities; she wants to know the prospect of the Korean music culture and is interested in writing about it. She is thrilled to accept a variety of perspectives about not only her interests but also social issues.
James H. is a senior and it is his 7th year in KISJ. James is often lazy but becomes the most , enthusiastic student in the school when he finds interests. In the study of Journalism, James is passionate in sports articles which mainly talk about the recent game result and important events since he is a huge fan of many different sports. Therefore, James wants to write an unbiased articles that deliver accurate information to the audiences.
Hojun J is a senior at Korea International School. He entered the school in 11th grade. He is an artistic student who likes drawing and painting. He likes to make artwork about issues in society and is writing this in portfolio activities. He is interested in investigating various social issues around the world through journalism classes and wants to inform these issues to the audience.
Emma is a senior at Korea International School, Jeju Campus. She joined the school in the fall of 2017, which makes this her 6th year. She is interested in a variety of academic subjects, including history, English, science, math, and social studies (so basically everything). Outside of school, she likes to spend her spare time reading books, listening to music, and taking photos. In Journalism, she is excited to write articles on issues and topics that matter the most to her: international conflicts, social justice and human rights issues, and art and literature.
Peter is currently a senior at KISJ continuing his third year in the school. His interests are mostly in theoretical philosophy. He values rigorous analysis, critical thinking, and creativity when it comes to testing and learning new ideas. With a firm belief in the power of rational thought and persuasion by argument, Peter holds that debate and discussion are crucial to the ongoing process of critical reflection and learning. With respect to journalism, he is interested in topics related to politics, science, and social issues in Korea and the United States. Peter wants to be a voice of reason that has a balanced perspective even as he helps raise awareness about often neglected issues in the community.
Min K. is a senior at Korea International School, Jeju, and she enrolled in the school in 6th grade. In school, she enjoys English, art, and physics. She’s also participated in writing activities and KISJ’s journalism organizations, which have trained her to write more efficiently in a shorter amount of time. Most recently, she worked as a chief editor to Amnesty PLUS, a student-led organization involving students from both the GEC and the wider Korean network. Outside of school, she spends a lot of time online; thus, she’s knowledgeable in American and internet pop culture including memes, current issues, and trending topics. Min hopes to put her pop culture and current issues knowledge to use in Journalism by writing articles relating to the latest entertainment news as well as news regarding more serious social issues such as feminism and racism. She strives to become an authentic journalist who integrates herself with the culture and issues she’s writing about instead of the typically detached role of a journalist.
Ricky, a junior at Korea International School Jeju (KISJ), is an ambivert who likes to play games and sleep. He has been in KISJ since 2012 and is probably going to attend until graduation. In his free time, he likes to go to the karaoke, and scroll through instagram. Although he is introverted a lot of the time, he likes to audition for plays and musicals. This is his first year in Journalism and he is looking for the chances to improve as a writer. In Journalism, he wants to write articles about recent school news.
Bill L. is a senior at Korea International School, Jeju. This is five years and a half years in KISJ. His favorite subjects are physics, math, and economics. He values the interest in studying economics and finance, which is directly related to the real world economics flow. He also loves to analyze the fluctuation of world economics, writing articles or magazines to provide information on current world economics. When he was reading the book about John Templeton, who is one of the greatest investors for world economics that helped the US from the economic depression, he was inspired to write his idea of economics in a book to provide his idea to others. Also, he also loves to write some of his opinions about the decisions that were made by significant investors, and he thought recording his ideas is also a great idea for further development. Due to the previous information, he desires to be a informers who can inform some economical information to everyone to make a wise decision for individual’s investments.
Edward is a senior currently studying in Korea International School, Jeju Campus. He has been studying at KISJ for 3 years since moving back to Korea from America. He has a huge interest in science and technology, and has many ideas about technologies to build, mainly about robotics, eco-friendly energy sources, and spacecrafts that are mostly from science fiction movies. He is deeply concerned about the world suffering from global warming, so my dream is to build technologies that will end global warming. Wondering how modern society works and how shocking events occur. Edward joined journalism in order to understand more, besides reading newspapers and watching tv news. His other interests include reporting on the environment, law, celebrities, and entertainment. As a journalist at KIS, he seeks to enlighten many people about important information that would bring solutions to social problems.
Kimmy L. is a senior at Korea International School Jeju who enjoys running. It is her second year in Jeju and she participated in all 3 seasons of sports last year. Since she likes to play and watch sports, she is looking forward to writing about many sports for Journalism. Not only sports but she also likes to spend time with her friends. As a passionate person, she puts her best effort into every subject including journalism, and is expected to grow as a well-organized writer.
Sienna is a 12th grader having her 7th year in KISJ. Her main academic interest is criminology, but she also enjoys music and art classes. She enjoys learning/talking about social issues and crimes. She just wants to be an informer of what is going on in other people’s minds. She is looking forward to developing her writing skills especially in terms of writing concisely and objectively. She loves being a part of the school theater productions. Hopefully she gets accepted into the school play this school year!
Jinny is a Junior at Korea International School Jeju. It is her 2nd year at KISJ, and she is a hard-working, thoughtful student who is interested in bioengineering and new scientific research. Even though Jinny doesn’t enjoy writing, she is confident that she will actively produce articles as a journalist in her Journalism class to deliver important information to her audience. Jinny is passionate about discovering new facts, so she will work as a “fact deliverer” for whoever is in need.
Lina is a junior in KISJ highschool who has passion for ASMR. It is her 8th year in this school. From a young age, she enjoyed reading and writing subjects. Although she is a highly introverted person, she hopes to interact with more people in high school. Lina chose to take journalism in her junior year because she was interested in different types of writing, and it was one of the subjects that she wanted to try since her freshman year. In this class, she hopes to take on the role of a journalist that sends out informative stories on topics she is interested in to the KISJ community.
Scott Y. is an ardent student who is a freshman at KISJ High School. This is his first year in KISJ and he actively engages in both the local and school community by participating in several local events and school council. Since he is used to writing about international and political issues, he maintains objective tones in his journals by fairly adding opinions from all sides that voice on the issue. He will continue to write his fascinating journals to improve himself as a person and as a journalist.
