The 20th president of the Republic of Korea, Yoon Seok-youl, is the 13th President-elect of South Korea. He is the first president to be elected without any prior political experiences, as he was a Korean prosecutor general who then became a politician.
Born on December 18, 1960, in Seoul, he attended Seoul National University throughout his undergraduate years and completed his JD degree. As a chief prosecutor, he played a prominent role in investing the abuse of power of former Presidents Park Geun-Hye and Lee Myung-Bak. Before becoming a politician, his most recent role was the prosecutor general of South Korea in Moon Jae-in's government. After leaving that administration, he identified himself as a conservative People Power Party member and decided to run in the 20th presidential election. On March 9, 2022, Yoon Seok-youl officially defeated Democratic candidate Lee Jae-Myung in the 2022 South Korean presidential election, with a turnout rate difference of 0.7%, making it the closest presidential election race in Korean history. President-elect Yoon is scheduled to take office on May 10, 2022.
