Mountain View Hotel

The Merriman Inn opened up in April 1997. The Mountain View Hotel opened on this site in 1939 and stayed open for thirty years. It was a very popular tourist destination where many famous people stayed. Some passing shows stayed there as well. It was better known as John-Peter O'Grady's who was the owner. He also owned the first ice cream parlour in Kinvara. Many people stopped on a Sunday to get a lovely ice cream on the way back from the beach. In 1961 Hurricane Debbie struck the hotel and took of the brand new thatched roof. Some of the people who stayed there and later became famous were Cyrill Cusack and Micheál Mac Liamóir.
