We are delighted that St.Joseph's NS have been awarded the Active School Flag.
All the teachers in St. Josephs NS work together to strengthen their delivery of a different PE strands every year. A number of teachers attended the MOVE WELL, MOVE OFTEN courses to improve the teaching of the different strands and skills in the PE curriculum.
The children really enjoyed Gymnastics. They practiced different rolls and tumbles including the Pencil Roll, Egg Roll, James Bond Roll, Teddy Bear Roll, Forward Roll, Backward Roll and Arched Back Roll. The skills of balance and co-ordination improved with every lesson.
The children in 5th & 6th class went exploring around the school surroundings for the strand Outdoor Adventure. They picked up leaves, berries, twigs and nuts to make Mandalas. This was a fantastic example of cross circular link between PE and Visual Art.
Land PAWS water safety programme
1st and 3rd class are attending swimming lessons as part of the Aquatics Strand. They love learning about water safety and improving their stroke development and swimming endurance.
St. Joseph's N.S. bought new P.E. equipment to improve and enhance the teaching and learning of the P.E. strands. Ms. Killilea with the help of 5th & 6th class audited the P.E. equipment, made labels and stored the new P.E. equipment in the outdoor shed. Some of the new equipment included; rugby tags, floor markers, soft balls, large balls, footballs, table tennis equipment etc.
The ASC did a PE audit of all the equipment in school. They organised and labelled all the equipment into two bunkers. The PE equipment is used to improve and enhance the teaching and learning of the PE strands. The ASC have a rota to check and tidy the equipment weekly.
