About the course

This course prepares learners to enter the workplace in due course, in the business sector, in areas such as business administration, marketing, finance, human resources, sales and customer service.


The BTEC in Business/ Enterprise has three core components. A change from the original 4 units. Two components are assessed internally through the use of coursework, which often helps learners achieve above their target grades and Component 3, which is assessed externally and equips students with real life skills for sixth form/college or apprenticeships.

Component 1 - Exploring Business

In Component 1, students will research and explore which businesses in the local area are currently successful and why. They will learn how to assess risk for Business as well as linking current affairs to Business operations. This component represents 30% of your final grade.

Component 2 - Planning and Running your own Business

In Component 2 students will plan and decide on a realistic idea for a proposed business start-up, along with the format for the ownership of the business. Students will decide whether to provide services or goods, presenting their aims, objectives and sources of finance for the business, who their stakeholders are and a justification of why they think their business will be successful. This component represents 30% of your final grade.

Component 3 - Promotion and Finance for Business

In Component 3, students will learn about the costs involved in business and how businesses make a profit, understand how businesses plan for success and understand how businesses measure success and identify areas for improvement. Component 3 requires students to apply basic math's skills with some confidence. This component represents 40% of your final grade.

Taught by Mr. Howard, Mrs. Edwards and Mrs. Barber, the Business teams brings a huge amount of experience and expertise to the classroom.

Students develop knowledge and understanding by applying their learning and skills in a work-related context and this course engages students to take responsibility for their own learning and to develop skills that are essential for the modern-day workplace. These skills include: teamworking; working from a prescribed brief; working to deadlines; presenting information effectively; and accurately completing administrative tasks and processes.
