The pictures that I’ve chosen are the first and second images. The third image was a potential for my final selection but not chosen because there is a lot of negative space that makes the image look unappealing. The first picture was chosen because it captures the skyline of Hong Kong on a normal afternoon along with a Hong Kong resident who seems to be admiring the view. I chose the second image because Hong Kong is ranked first for having the best transportation globally.
The central message of this photo is a quiet contemplation of urban life and seamless blend of nature and modernity in Hong Kong. The man gazing across Victoria Harbour towards the iconic skyline evokes a sense of reflection, curiosity, and admiration for the city’s evolving landscape. The image invites viewers to pause and appreciate the dynamic interplay between the city’s towering skyscrapers and calm waters, highlighting both vibrancy and serenity that coexist in Hong Kong. The instantly recognisable skyline, featuring landmarks like the ICC (International Commerce Centre) showcases the city’s architectural expertise and international spirit. The juxtaposition of the bustling cityscape with the calmness of the harbour reflect’s Hong Kong's dual identity as a fast-paced metropolis and a place of peaceful atmosphere. The setting along the waterfront promenade emphasises the accessibility of world-class views to everyone, reinforcing Hong Kong’s reputation for blending urban life with communal spaces. This photo was taken at Harbour City, East Tsim Sha Tsui, one of Hong Kong’s most vibrant waterfront locations. This point of view offers an unobstructed view across Victoria Harbour towards Hong Kong Island, making it a popular spot for both locals and tourists to take in the city’s iconic skyline. The inspiration behind this photo comes from the everyday moments of introspection that occur within urban environments. The individual's stance and gaze are reminiscent of classic street photography, where the subject becomes both observer and participant in the city’s ongoing narrative. Infocus includes the works of renowned photographers like Fan Ho, who often captured the poetic solitude and human stories amid Hong Kong’s urban bustle. The intention was to echo this tradition finding beauty in the ordinary and highlighting the emotional connection between people and their city. To ensure ethical appropriateness in capturing this street photography, the subject’s identity is not disclosed, maintaining their privacy and dignity. The photo was taken in a public space without disrupting the environment or the subject’s natural behaviour. The image aims to celebrate the city and its people, avoiding any portrayal that could be considered exploitative or disrespectful.

The photograph aims to capture the essence of Hong Kong through its Mass Transit Railway (MTR), the city's principal mode of transportation. The MTR is a rapid transit system that is known for its efficiency, safety, cleanliness, and advanced technology. The subway, Hong Kong's Mass Transit Railway, is an iconic part of the city's urban identity, reflecting its vibrant culture and efficiency. The MTR not only facilitates daily commutes but enhances the urban experience. The MTR has actively collaborated with local artists and organizations to transform ordinary spaces into engaging art displays, fostering a sense of community and belonging among residents and visitors. The MTR promotes creativity and encourages appreciation for Hong Kong’s diverse artistic heritage, making every journey a potential source of inspiration. The photo was taken at the Hong Kong Cultural Center. The inspiration was to capture the subway because it is the biggest transportation form in Hong Kong and it has the best transportation system. The MTR system facilitates over five and a half million trips on an average weekday and maintains a 99.9% punctuality rate. To ensure ethical appropriateness in street photography, photographers commonly respect people's privacy by avoiding direct focus on individuals and capturing candid moments without intrusion. Also, images are taken in public spaces where there is no reasonable expectation of privacy, and the photographer avoids any actions that could be perceived as harassment or exploitation
