This report presents my overall selections for the photography exhibition taking one picture for "Hong Kong City" and the other for "Hong Kong People." The selected pictures were taken with utmost care from a large number of options to convey the deepest sense of the culture and the stunning landscapes of Hong Kong.
Image 1: HK City
Reason for selection;
I selected this image of the pier for its charming masterpiece and relaxing atmosphere. The way that the lights cast light upon the bridge and reflect on the water contrasts with the charm of Hong Kong’s beauty. Other images did not capture the beauty and peaceful atmosphere of the city.
Message;
This photograph communicates a sense of relaxation and calmness, showcasing Hong Kong as a place where nature and downtown living get along well. The warm lights symbolized hope and community, inviting everyone to appreciate the beauty of nature.
Location: I took this photo at a pier in Sai Kung
Inspiration: The inspiration behind this photo comes from the famous photographer Michael Kenna, who often captured the peaceful natural world. His ability to capture emotion through light and atmosphere influenced my approach to this shot. Michael Kenna's most famous quote is that nothing is ever the same twice because everything is always gone forever, and yet each moment has infinite photographic possibilities.
Image 2: Hong Kong People
A shadow of a person cast on textured stone pavement shone by a beam of sunlight.
Reason for selection;
I chose this image for its unique perspective and artistic illustration of daily life in Hong Kong. The play of light and dark contrasts a fascinating visual symbolising that dark is often associated with power, authority, and strength, whereas light is often connected to righteousness, goodness, and peace.
Message;
This photograph highlights the idea of showing the contrast between dark and light.
Location;
I took this photo in TST near Star Ferry, where light and shadow often interact dramatically on the streets.
Inspiration;
This photo was inspired by Fan Ho, the master of light and shadow photography. His use of some basic photography techniques, such as leading lines, is also brilliant. But where his photography really shines is in the use of light and shadows.
