We are an International Baccalaureate® (IB) school!
The Kew-Forest School is an authorized International Baccalaureate World School offering the Primary Years Programme for Preschool/Prekindergarten through Grade 5, receiving accreditation in January 2026. IB World Schools share a common philosophy—a commitment to high-quality, challenging, international education that we believe is important for our students.
*Only schools authorized by the IB Organization can offer any of its four academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme, or the Career-related Programme (CP). What does this mean for the Lower School?
We are on the path towards strengthening our programme IB World School for the Primary Years Programme.
Teachers participate in extensive professional development to deepen their understanding of IB PYP principles and practices.
Teachers develop transdisciplinary units of inquiry that are relevant, significant, authentic, challenging, and address real-world issues.
Students engage in inquiry-based learning. They ask questions, investigate problems, develop their own understanding of concepts through exploration and discovery, and make connections across subjects.
Students "learn how to learn" through the development of Approaches to Learning (ATLs) skills such as thinking skills, communication skills, research skills, self-management skills, and social skills that are fundamental in and out of a school context.
Students take informed action to make a significant contribution to their local and global communities.
Students embody the attributes of the IB Learner Profile.

The International Baccalaureate® (IB) learner profile describes a broad range of human capacities and responsibilities that go beyond academic success.
The learner profile provides a long term vision of education. They imply a commitment to help all members of the school community learn to respect themselves, others and the world around them.
By developing the attributes of the IB learner profile, students also learn how to demonstrate respect for themselves and others, developing international-mindedness by working with others for a shared purpose and taking positive action or change.
Your child has been working to develop the 10 attributes of the International Baccalaureate® Learner Profile throughout all aspects of their school day!

To support your child's continued development of the attributes at home, we have created the IB Learner Profile in Action SUMMER CHOICE BOARD.
The activities are designed to:
encourage curiosity, critical thinking, creativity, empathy, and resilience
build global citizens and lifelong learners
challenge your child to do and be their best selves at home and school
Directions:
With your child, choose 5 Learner Profile activities to complete over the summer. Encourage your child to describe specific ways they demonstrated the learner profile trait.
📸 Take photos of your child in action and email them to your child's teachers. We will display these photos on our Learner Profile Community Bulletin Board.
