Math Framework Foundations Badge
Intended Audience:
Inclusive of but not limited to….current or aspiring Coaches, Teacher Leaders, TOSAs, LEA Leadership, Site Leadership, Department Chairs, Grade Level Leads
Process:
Participate in trainings for all nine modules to earn the MFF Badge.
Module training can be done in any order, but starting with Module 0 and Module 1 is strongly recommended.
There will be multiple opportunities to participate in training within your region or beyond. Please reach out to your region leads for more information.
Each participant will create an account through the Longitudinal Data Systems (LDS) to track progress and verification of the MFF Badge.

Setting the Stage
Time: 3 hours
Learning Goal:
Participants will learn about structures and engage in experiences that will serve as throughlines for all the Mathematics Professional Learning Partnership (MPLP) modules.

Framework for All: A Vision for Teaching & Learning
Time: 3 hours
Learning Goal:
Participants will experience and reflect on the vision of the 2023 California Math Framework. Participants will learn about ways to support math education leaders within their context to improve learning and teaching of mathematics.

Supporting All Students
Time: 3 hours
Learning Goals:
Investigate and apply the UDL design elements, Math Language Routines, and Five Components of Equitable and Engaging Teaching supports ALL students.
Examine instructional structures and research based strategies designed to support equitable access to mathematics for all learners.
Intentionally integrate conceptual understanding, language development, and an assets-based approach to teaching and learning.

Teaching to Big Ideas
Time: 3 hours
Learning Goal:
Participants will learn about Big Ideas as a means to teaching and learning mathematics as a set of interconnected concepts with robust opportunities for sensemaking.

Grade-Span Investigations
Time: 3 hours
Learning Goal:
Participants will engage in grade-span investigations to deepen their understanding of important mathematics across TK-12, use the Framework’s Big Ideas and Content Connections to examine how mathematical ideas develop across grades, and apply this understanding to interpret student thinking and support educators’ instructional decision-making through coaching.

Learning From & With Each Other
Time: 6 hours
Learning Goal:
Participants will experience and reflect on the structures for engaging teachers in learning as outlined in the 2023 California Math Framework.

Mathematics Assessment for the 21st Century
Time: 3 hours
Learning Goals:
Refine and/or redefine our beliefs about assessment, and implemented assessment practices, in order to maximize the amount of learning each child is capable of while minimizing the sociocultural effects of narrow testing.

High Quality Instructional Materials to Support Student Learning
Time: 3 hours
Learning Goal:
Participants will learn to identify High Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM) and explore how to implement high quality materials to support the ideas of the California Math Framework (CMF).

Connecting Math & Language: Strategies for Multilingual Learners
Time: 3 hours
Learning Goal:
Learn to recognize, value, and use students’ cultural and linguistic strengths.
Explore the difference between planning and designing coherent mathematics learning experiences.
Gain a deeper understanding of the role of a coach/instructional leader to support mathematics educators of multilingual, multicultural learners through discussions with like-minded colleagues.
