ELCN Music

Welcome to Music at the ELCN!

My name is Kelly Davisson and I will be your child's in-person Music Teacher this year at the ELCN Campus. This is my 21st year teaching Music full-time, and my 10th year at the ELCN. I received my Music Education at The Boston Conservatory and at UNT. I am excited to share the joys of music with our Bear Cubs. This year, due to COVID19, we will have some extra safety protocols to follow for class. Our seating chart is as socially distanced as I can make it in a small classroom. We will wear masks whenever possible, and use hand sanitizer on the way in and out of class. Most movement will be non-locomotor and there will be no hand holding or clapping games this year. I have made special Music Kits for each student which include some sound making items and some movement items. I would love for everyone to make a small home-made shaker to bring in to add to their kits, if possible. You can make them out of a plastic easter egg, empty medicine bottle, or gum container that has some dried rice inside. If possible, please write their name on it. Thank you so much. Sometimes, I will take out the "real" instruments for the students to play and sanitize them after each use, but most of the time we will use our individual Music Kits. There will be lots of fun things we can do and learn together in Music. We will experience many different styles of music and music from diverse cultures. We will learn about famous Composers and experience their music. We will learn about different types of musical instruments and play many percussion instruments. We will do some singing, preferably with our masks on. We will move creatively to music, feel the beat of the music, and discover form in music through movement. We will work on keeping a steady beat, rhythmic patterns, melodic patterns, echo, call-response, and some improvisation. We will add music to stories and enjoy songbooks. We will also play many types of musical games. We'll have lots of FUN!! :-)
