Individual Student System
To manage individual behavior in the classroom, I will be using Class Dojo. On Class Dojo, students will be able to earn positive points as well as negative points. In class we will refer to these points as "glow" and "grow" points. Class Dojo will not be downloaded by the parent/guardian of students. Students will be able to earn glow points for various behaviors (these points will be decided together the first week of school), as well as earn grow points by making poor choices, such as talking out, being off task, disrupting and being unkind to others, etc. If a student earns five or more “grow” points in one week, they will be given a “grow” note home, which will need to be signed and turned in the next day. This is a way for students to acknowledge their behavior, as well as reflect on their behavior to make better choices in the future. Each week, students will begin with a fresh start of points for grows. But, they get to keep any points earned when they have "GLOWED". When students have reached 10 "glow" points, they may trade them in for treasure box, panther bucks, or other classroom incetives.
Whole Group Behavior
To continue building our classroom community, we will be using something called "smileys😄" and "frownies😔". This strategy allows students to work together to earn smileys when the whole class is making good choices such as getting a class compliment, following directions quickly, remaining on task, and many other ways! However, if the majority of the class is not making good choices or has had to be reminded several times to follow a task, the class will get a "frowny". At the end of the school day, the students and I will look to see if we earned more "smileys" or more "frownies" for the day. If there are more “smileys”, students will earn a star in our class rewards jar!⭐ If there are more frownies, then no star will be added to the jar and our class will try again the next day! When our jar is filled to the top, our class will be rewarded for their amazing behavior!
If you ever have any questions regarding your child's behavior, please do not hesitate to reach out to me! Communicating and working together to find what best works for your student is always my top priority.
