Individual Student System

To manage individual behavior in the classroom, I will be using Class Dojo. On Class Dojo, students will be able to earn positive points as well as negative points. In class, we will refer to these points as glow and grow points. Class Dojo will not be downloaded by the parent/guardian of students. Students will be able to earn glow points for various behaviors that exhibit Panther Pride. They can also earn grow points by making poor choices, such as talking out, being off task, disrupting, being unkind to others, etc. If a student earns three or more grow points in one week, they will be given a green grow note home, which will need to be signed and turned in the next day. This is a way for students to acknowledge their behavior, as well as reflect on their behavior. Each week, students will begin with a fresh start and an opportunity to earn glow points. When students have reached three glow points in a week, they will receive an orange (or another color) glow note to take home, and they will be able to choose something from our treasure box. Notes and treasure box will be every Friday. Points are reset on the following Monday. If your child does not receive either a glow or a grow note, that's okay! That means they didn't receive three of either point.

Whole Group Behavior

To continue building our classroom community, we will use a “Beat the Teacher” game. This strategy is designed to have a friendly competition that allows students to work together to earn a tally mark under the “Oh Yeah!” section on our board and earn a pizza slice. When the whole class makes good choices such as getting a class compliment, following directions quickly, remaining on task, etc., they will get a point. However, if most of the class is not making good choices or has had to be reminded several times to follow a task, a tally will be added under the “Oh Oops!” sign and the teacher will get a point. At the end of the school day, we will check to see if “Oh Yeah!” or “Oh Oops!” has more tallies. If the “Oh Yeah!” section has more, students will earn a pizza slice to add to our empty pizza on the board. If the “Oh Oops!” section has more, no pizza slice will be added to the pizza, and our class will try again the next day! When our pizza is whole, our classroom will earn a previously brainstormed reward for their amazing work! This could include things like a popsicle party, a popcorn party, or extra recess.
