All Kearsarge Regional High School students in grades nine (9), ten (10), and eleven (11) will be taking the PSAT 9, or PSAT/NMSQT in school Wednesday, October 11th. Grade twelve (12) students that have not submitted a completed Senior Project Proposal, due October 6th, are required to be in school to complete their proposal on Wednesday, October 11th. This test will take approximately three hours. Students will finish for the day at approximately 11:30AM.
Students can create an account and get FREE personalized SAT practice using Khan Academy: https://www.khanacademy.org/signup?continue=/mission/sat
Grade twelve (12) students that have completed their proposal will check in with their advisors prior to PSAT day about their plan for Senior Project Activities on PSAT day. Senior Project and Community Service hours are two activities that should be prioritized on this day. Should all these activities be up to date, post-secondary planning/applications/visits can be made.
The PSAT is a digital test and only school-issued Chromebooks may be used. If you need to borrow a device, let the school counseling office know ASAP. Students should also bring a scientific or graphing calculator. Cell phone use will not be permitted. There will be short breaks and bringing a snack and a water bottle from home is also suggested.
The PSAT is the official practice exam for the SAT and it measures the skills and knowledge that research has shown are the most essential for college and/or career readiness and success. The Reading Test measures comprehension and reasoning skills and focuses on close reading of passages in a wide array of subject areas. The Writing and Language Test measures a range of skills including command of evidence, expression of ideas, and the use of standard English conventions in grammar and punctuation. The Mathematics Test covers a range of math practices, with an emphasis on problem-solving, modeling, using tools strategically, and using algebraic structure.
All students that are testing may be dismissed from the school following testing if they have permission from a parent or guardian. Testing will begin promptly at 8:00 AM. Students should plan to arrive at school at their normal time. Students will not be admitted late or dismissed during testing sessions. According to the guidelines set by the College Board, should a student miss a portion of the testing session, the results will be considered invalid.
Buses will run at their normal times on this day both in the morning and the afternoon. Buses will arrive at KRHS and depart on the normal schedule. If you would like to dismiss your child after the exam ends, please complete the linked dismissal form that follows the letter.
Sunday, September 17 was National Constitution Day. As a school that receives federal funds, we must commemorate the signing of the U.S. Constitution on or adjacent to that date. This year students in social studies classes compared our constitution to documents from other nations; learned about how the constitution preserves the rights to private property and competition; and examined the sources and influences that led to us developing the document we have today.
As part of our study of the Transatlantic Exchange, Mrs. Hill's U.S. history class, students prepared a four-course menu where each dish had ingredients from the Old and New World. Faculty members then voted for the menu they most preferred. Congratulations to The Historian Palate (1st place) and (tied for 2nd) The Atlantic Voyages and The Whispering Sombrero. Chef April Hall and her students will make one item from a winning menu for history students to enjoy at a later date.
Here is a sampling of dishes: Corn chowder with bacon, corn, potato, cream, and onion; a burrito made with steak or chicken, rice, black or brown beans, avocado, tomatoes, and corn, served on a tortilla with melted cheese; a salad of green pepper, tomato, onions, and feta cheese; and pumpkin pie with a brown sugar crust, dusted with cinnamon.
On Friday, September 22, Mrs. Hill's classroom was transformed into a museum for U.S. history students to showcase a colonial-era artifact (or replica), complete with a "museum card" about the item. Students acted as as museum docents to further explain their exhibit to "patrons" of the museum.
42nd Street will be performed at the KRHS Auditorium this November 10, 11 and 12!
Parking permits are required for all students that wish to park on the KRHS campus. Permits are available in the main office for $10.00 each ($2.00 for each additional car/household). Stickers should be placed on the rear driver side window.
The 2023-2024 student handbook is available. Please remember to review the handbook with your family. The Student Handbook can be found on the KRHS website or by clicking here.
Chromebooks are only loaned out to those students whose Chromebooks are undergoing repair. Please make sure all Chromebooks come to school daily with a full charge!
Students should use the website and google classroom to locate up to date senior project information. Any questions can be directed to Dr. Geraghty in the main office. Finalizing Project Proposals and Identifying a Project Mentor are two items that are to be completed during the month of October.
Please come physically into the building if you plan to sign your student out early. We are keeping a record of who releases and transports our students if they leave prior to the end of the school day. For PSAT's we will make an exception for these guidelines.
Seniors who have a study hall may use Senior Privileges to sign themselves out of school and leave the KRHS campus during that time. Senior Privilege forms can be obtained in the main office and require a parent/guardian signature before being approved by KRHS Administration. Seniors may not sign out for lunch unless there is a study hall abutting the lunch period. Seniors must attend FLEX period.
