Noah Clark is a STEM Champion in the National STEM Challenge. His project was building a custom controller using an Arduino Pro-MINI that emulates a standard USB Joypad. This project Used programming for the Arduino; Electronics and PCB design to connect the buttons and sliders, and 3D Printing for the enclosure. This was built for our team robot; but could be modified to make a controller for people with limited mobility. He won a trip to Washington D.C. in April to participate in the National STEM Festival.
On Thurs., Feb. 15, students involved in the year-long Getting to Y ELO hosted a group of peers at the district Professional Development Center for an extended Data Retreat. Students reviewed 2021 data from the Youth Risk Behavior Survey, identifying strengths and challenges within our school community's results. Some of their work will be shared in a Community Dialogue, to take place Thurs., March 21, from 2:30-4:30 in the KRHS Resource Center. Please consider joining the group for the event. Attention Seniors: During the week of March 11th - 15th, Seniors will be completing Progress Check #2 with their Senior Project Advisor. During the Progress check students should use their Learning Log entries to support discuss the following topics:
What progress has been made towards answering your Essential Question?
Discuss and reflect upon what you are currently working on for your project, where you have been, and identify a strategy for the coming days/weeks.
What work have you completed? Where did you visit? Who did you interview?
What are the most important things you learned at this point related to your project? (This can be content related or about the learning process)
Did you accomplish the goals you previously set? Did they change?
What is giving you trouble? Where can you get help?
What are your goals for the next phase?
Details for each component of the Senior Project can be seen by students in their Senior Project Google Classroom and the Senior Project Handbook can be accessed on the KRHS Website by clicking the following link: Senior Project Handbook
Remember that it is a KRSD Graduation requirement to complete 20 hours of community service by the time you graduate. Families of those students in the graduating class of 2024 will be receiving letters if limited hours have been recorded at the school. Forms to submit community service can be found on the school website, in your Advisory Google Classroom, and picked up in the Guidance Office. Completed forms should be turned in at the main office or guidance office to be logged.
As you likely know, KRHS was forced to reduce even more buses this year due to driver shortages. At this time, the district only provided bus passes to those students who need an alternate bus for childcare purposes. If a student would like to ride a different bus, a call needs to be made by the school office staff (who the student is asking) to the transportation company to first verify if there is space on that bus. There are between four and six buses that are at maximum capacity and students can't be added to those buses. Thank you for your continued understanding.
VLACS classes need to be done by May 15th to count toward graduation!
