Knowing the vocabulary around a subject that you are studying is critical for your understanding. For example, let's say that you have never been skiing before. You slap your skis on and have no idea what you are in for. Your friend says to you , " Why don't we head up to the double black diamonds and hit the moguls and the glades?" Without knowing the vocabulary, you may agree to skiing the most difficult trails on the mountain, over icy bumps and through the trees.
When we are studying ancient Egypt I need you to understand what I am saying when I explain, " The organs are placed in canopic jars, the body is then covered in natron, and will eventually end up in a sarcophagus." See how important it is to understand key words? This is the case with any subject or activity that you will encounter in your life.
In class we will create flashcards on paper. This is important!! This allows you to write the words down and process them. You will need to keep the flashcards in your binder, and be asked to run them with your small group in class. In the evenings you will be asked to study them a few times. At night you can either do this with the cards or use quizlet.
