Welcome ! My name is Cristine McCloskey and I am happy to tell you that I am your social studies teacher! My motto in the classroom is : If it's not fun, why bother? My goal for this year is to bring you the curriculum live and in color. With that said, I expect you to bring your best game on most days. I plan on bringing mine.
I have been teaching sixth grade for 21 years, and I still love it! For the first 18 years I taught English Language Arts ( reading and writing) and Social Studies. Three years ago, I switched to teaching only Social Studies, but I teach reading and writing in every lesson that we cover.
I received my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education at State University College at Plattsburgh ( SUNY Plattsburgh), and my M.Ed. in Reading at New England College. Over the years I have participated in many activities around school: Soccer coach, student council advisor, summer writing programs, Tech Crew advisor, homework club ( EXCEL), directed my own Summer Camp, created Poetry Day and Literacy Night, and heading up the Geography Bee.
I was born in New York and have lived in New London since 1999. I have a 10 year old daughter named Molly, two dogs ( Daisy and Izzy ) and two guinea pigs ( Char-char and Nugget). I believe in unicorns, making birthdays fun, smiling, laughing, and working hard. In my spare time I like to read, walk with friends, go to the beach, play with Molly, and travel.
