Office 365

Microsoft Office 365 is an internet/web-based program that allows students access to a suite of programs commonly used for classroom products. Office 365 offers access to these commonly used programs:

    • Microsoft Word
    • PowerPoint
    • Excel
    • Sway
    • OneNote
    • Mail (Outlook)

Web Access

Office 365 can be accessed in different ways depending on the device. In most circumstances, the user can access Office 365 using a web browser on

    • Android Tablet
    • iPad
    • Android Phone
    • Apple iPhone
    • PC
    • Laptops or Macbooks

Students are recommended to access Office 365 through MyKaty Cloud. Accessing from MyKaty Cloud should allow students to bypass entering usernames and passwords.

Home Download for PC

Direct users can download Microsoft Office Products to a PC or laptop running Windows.

    1. Sign in to Office 365 using MyKaty Cloud.
    2. On the Office page, go to the version of Office you want to install. For example, your admin may have given you the option to install Office 2016 or Office 2013.
    3. Select a Language, and then choose Install to install the 32-bit version. NOTE: To install the 64-bit version, choose 64-bit in the Version section before you choose Install. If you're uncertain, try Choose the 32-bit or 64-bit version of Office for more information.
    4. Depending on your browser, go to the install pop-up that appears and click
      • Run (in Internet Explorer)
      • Setup (in Chrome), or
      • Save File (in Firefox)
    5. Follow the prompts and accept the license agreement.
    6. When you see "You're good to go," select All done. After installing, you can start to use Word, Excel, and the other Office applications.

Home Download for Mac

Sign in to the Office 365 portal with your work or school account.

    1. Go to Settings Settings: update your profile, install software and connect it to the cloud > Office 365 Settings > Software.

On the Software page, under Install Office 2016 for Mac, select Install to begin downloading the installer package.

    1. Once the download has completed, open Finder, go to Downloads, and double-click Microsoft_Office_2016_Installer.pkg.
    2. On the first installation screen, select Continue to begin the installation process.
    3. Enter your Mac login password to complete the installation.

Activate Office 2016 for Mac

    1. After Office 2016 for Mac is installed, Word 2016 for Mac opens so you can activate Office and confirm your subscription. You should only have to do this once.
    2. Review the Word 2016 for Mac What's New screen, and then select Get started.
    3. On the Sign in to Activate Office screen, select Sign In, and then enter your work or school account.
    4. After you sign in, you may see an alert asking for permission to access the Microsoft identity stored in your keychain. Select Allow or Always Allow to continue.
    5. On the next screen, choose an appearance for your Office installation, select Continue, and then select the Start Using Word button to open the app and complete the Office 2016 for Mac activation.

Mobile Device

    1. To download Microsoft Office Applications for your mobile device, access Office 365 by logging in to MyKaty Cloud. Once the user is logged in, the Office 365 program should recognize the device and provide options to download the necessary apps.
    2. Select the apps individually for download. The link will take the user to the appropriate store (depending on operating system) for download.
    3. Once the app has been downloaded, the user will need to register the app with Microsoft by entering the information below. Once this registration has been completed, the user will have access to their KISD school Microsoft account.

        • Password: your district password

OneDrive

As a part of Office 365, students have access to Microsoft's online storage system called OneDrive. There is 1 TB of storage available to all KISD students.

There are two ways OneDrive can be accessed

    1. Through a browser on any internet connected device by accessing MyKaty Cloud (www.mykaty.katyisd.org , selecting the Office 365 tile, and then choosing the OneDrive tile
    2. On a mobile device through a downloaded OneDrive app (see previous page for instructions on how to download).
