Library FAQ
What if my book is overdue or lost?
Overdue notices are sent weekly to homeroom teachers and to students' school email addresses. If your book is overdue, please stop by the library to ask if it can be renewed or to return it.
Students will need to pay the replacement cost for any lost or damaged books (damaged beyond repair). We are sometimes asked why parents can't purchase a replacement from a bookstore where the prices are less expensive. The books bought for a KISD library are library bound quality and intended for numerous circulations. The vendors also charge a fee for the processing and cataloging of the books so they are ready to put on the shelf upon arrival. Students will be refunded if a lost book they paid for is returned in good condition within a reasonable amount of time.
What are the library hours?
Monday - Friday 7:00 am – 3:10 pm
The library is closed after school on early release days and the day before a holiday begins.
Hours are subject to change.
When can I visit the library?
No passes are needed to visit the library before or after school.
Students may visit during lunches but cannot eat in the library. If students eat in the cafeteria, they must remain in the cafeteria during the entire lunch period.
A limited number of Enrichment passess will be available for students to pick up before school starts.
Visit the library before school on Wednesdays and Thursdays for an advisory pass.
What is the library checkout policy?
Students and staff are encouraged to checkout materials and resources from the library.
Students may check out up to 3 items at a time for 3 weeks (21 days), and in most cases, the items can be renewed.
Please bring your student ID with you to check out books.
Do I need to bring my book in to renew it (recheck it)?
Yes, you must bring your book to the library so we can re-scan your book. We will let you know if we have a waiting list and can not renew your book at that time.
What if I need to print something?
Students can print in the library using library computers and printers for the following prices:
10¢ for black & white per side
50¢ for color per side
The library also has a black & white copy machine that can handle letter and legal sized documents for 10¢ per side.
What if I need a Chromebook or other technology during or after school?
The library has Chromebooks available for student check out. A Student/Parent Equipment Use Agreement must be completed prior to checking out a device. Equipment Use Agreements are available in the library and must be signed by both the student and a parent or legal guardian. Once the form has been returned to the library and permission has been verified, the student may check out a Chromebook under the guidelines of our circulation policy.
