Digital English Session
Exploring the digital world around us...
In our recent Digital literacy integrated with English session, EY1 learners were introduced to laptops to foster early tech appreciation. Sitting in a cozy circle, the learners eagerly listened as the teacher showed a laptop and asked, "Has anyone seen or used one of these before?" After excited responses, the teacher explained that a laptop is a computer for activities like games, videos, and learning. Using simple terms, the teacher pointed out the screen, keyboard, and buttons. Learners then came closer to see the laptop, making it less intimidating. This hands-on experience laid a foundation for digital literacy, helping our young learners navigate the digital world with confidence and curiosity.
Math
Let's find the number that’s first in line: 1
In our recent numeracy session, our young learners participated in a fun activity to reinforce number recognition and fine motor skills. The task was to identify the number 1 and stick a paper apple with the number 1 onto a large paper tree on the classroom wall. The learners eagerly gathered around as the teacher explained the task and demonstrated how to find the number 1 on the apple. Each learner then took turns identifying the apple with the number 1 and sticking it on the tree. This hands-on activity not only helped the learners recognize the number 1 but also improved their coordination and fine motor skills. The classroom buzzed with excitement as the tree filled with apples, each placed by the learners with pride. This engaging exercise successfully combined number recognition with a tactile experience, building a strong foundation for our EY1 learners in early math skills.
Understanding the world
Sticker Play
During our Understanding the World session, learners embarked on an engaging journey to review body parts through a personalized and interactive activity. The learners enthusiastically placed stickers on their worksheets, identifying and naming each body part aloud. This interactive experience not only strengthened their comprehension of body parts but also enhanced their motor skills and verbal communication. Through experiential learning, each learner gained confidence and a sense of accomplishment, laying down a solid groundwork for their ongoing progress and development.
Horticulture
A window garden tour...
In our horticulture session, our EY1 learners were treated to an immersive exploration of our school's window garden. Divided into small groups, they embarked on an adventure to discover the hidden treasures of nature right within our school walls. With eyes wide with wonder, the learners observed the delicate dance of leaves swaying in the gentle breeze and the vibrant hues of blossoming leaves captivating their senses. The teacher introduced them to the fascinating world of indoor gardening and let them observe the unique conditions that allow plants to thrive inside. As learners wandered among the plants by the window, they eagerly touched the soft leaves, feeling their texture with their fingers and admired the detailed patterns and colors of the plants. Each discovery sparked a new wave of curiosity and excitement, as they absorbed the sights, smells and sensations of the natural world around them. Through this hands-on adventure, our EY1 learners grew closer to nature, setting the stage for a lifelong love and care for the world around them.
Sports
Joy in jumping
Our EY1 learners recently took on the challenge of jumping over three consecutive hurdles during a sports session. In this exciting activity, the learners practiced with a single hurdle to build their confidence and coordination. Once they were comfortable, they advanced to jumping over three hurdles in a row. This engaging exercise was designed to enhance their physical coordination, cognitive skills, and overall gross motor development. Watching our young learners eagerly participate and master the hurdles was truly inspiring. Their enthusiasm and determination were evident as they tackled each jump with increasing skill and confidence. This activity not only provided excellent physical exercise but also fostered a sense of achievement and perseverance. Great job, EY1!
