EIC OVERVIEW
EIC OVERVIEW
EIC, introduced by TKM23 with the hope to light their spark of interest into flames by inspiring and equipping them with knowledge, tools and experiences necessary to pursue the paths of STEM and entrepreneurship.
EIC was created for beneficiaries with an interest in STEM, entrepreneurship and a flair for business.
The Kalsom Movement strives for excellence when fighting education inequality, which is why, in the 23rd edition of The Kalsom Movement (2016/2017), we introduced a new summer programme initiative: Entrepreneurship and Innovation Camp (EIC).
The EIC modules introduced are aligned with the four pillars of The Kalsom Movement which are English language proficiency, development of non-academic and academic skills, exposure to post-secondary opportunities, and nurturing the Kalsom spirit.
OBJECTIVES
1ST EIC (2017)
EIC first held in UiTM Alor Gajah, Melaka where 60 students beneficiaries were chosen based on their participation in their respective schools’ business club and 20 facilitators were selected upon the submission of their online application. The camp’s primary focus lies on mastering communication in English, financial management, exploring entrepreneurship pathways and fostering innovation through effective problem solving. Beneficiaries actively engage in a variety of enjoyable activities designed to promote teamwork, communication and confidence building. These activities include business pitching, amazing race and spaghetti and marshmallow tower. The first EIC placed a strong emphasis on exposing beneficiaries to real-world business scenarios.
TKM24
The integration of a programming module into EIC as part of STEM education, commenced in 2018. While the camp remains centered around entrepreneurship, the inclusion of programming pathways aims to provide beneficiaries with valuable exposure, as programming is not typically taught in school. In addition to entrepreneur skills, beneficiaries are introduced to personal finance management, enabling them to apply principles of wealth acquisition and make informed decisions on prudent spending.
TKM25
In 2019, the EIC took the form of a 5-day camp exclusively tailored for members of Business Clubs in secondary schools. Held from July 21st to July 26th, this immersive experience involved 25 carefully selected facilitators dedicated to empowering 80 underprivileged beneficiaries from three different schools across Selangor. Besides leveraging the beneficiaries' technological knowledge, focusing on the strategic use of social media as a marketing platform for businesses, the camp also expanded their understanding of various roles within a business firm. Enhanced from the previous module, "Entrepreneurs of the Future," this iteration broadened their knowledge, delving into the specifics of different positions and their functions within an organization, equipping them to make informed and critical decisions.
COVID-19
In 2021, the EIC underwent a transformation under TKM27 who were in charge at the time, into a 4-day online camp, occurring from July 19th to the 12th, with 60 beneficiaries participating from three different schools in Kemaman, Terengganu. The shift to an online format was prompted by the challenges posed by the Covid-19 situation and the enforcement of stricter standard operating procedures (SOP). Throughout the event, various online platforms served as the primary means of communication.
Within this virtual setting, beneficiaries were introduced to the concepts of social entrepreneurship and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). They were tasked with developing business solutions that not only addresses specific problems but also aligned with selected SDG(s). Furthermore, beneficiaries gained insights into the realm of investment decisions concerning business resources. This approach broadened their understanding of responsible business practices and sustainable development.
