Reading - every night
Every week students from Tui Whanau will bring home reading, spelling, and basic maths facts to learn.
READING – Please listen to your child read every night. If they get stuck you can support them to use reading strategies by saying “try that again, sound it out, break it down or what word might fit there?" Students have been asked to record the date and title of the text.
Keep track of your Home Learning on our Tui Class Home Learning Tracking Sheet. Find your name along the bottom tabs and fill in your results each week.
Spelling
SPELLING - Every week your child will have a spelling list. This may come from errors in their writing that week, and from the SmartWords spelling scheme which groups words together by rules. They need to learn these words by heart. It helps if students are able to articulate what the spelling rule is for their list of words.
SAY IT ... SOUND IT … SPELL IT ... WRITE IT ... CHECK IT

Foundation Maths Facts
Each week you will have also have foundation maths facts to learn by heart. This knowledge helps you to solve maths strategies more easily as you get older. To know something off by heart you should be able to recall it within 5 seconds.
Prototec is an excellent website to use for practicing foundation facts.
