Project Abstract
Maternal health continues to present a major challenge globally and also in Kenya leading to great loss of life of both mothers and their children. A major challenge has been noted to be the lack of timely and accurate information on the part of the healthcare providers about the mothers they serve due to poor information management. This challenge is more pronounced in areas with resource constraints such as rural areas and informal urban settlements. This study is seeking to address the specific challenge of information management (collection, storage, analysis and dissemination) in the area of maternal health as a means to the provision of better services to mothers and their children.
Project objectives
To develop a maternal health information system for the collection, storage analysis and dissemination of maternal health data and information in underserved counties and vulnerable population groups in Kenya.
To develop and implement a secure framework for the sharing of maternal health records between medical facilities mediated by the expectant mother to ensure privacy and confidentiality concerns are addressed.
To develop and implement a framework for a national maternal health data observatory for aggregation, sharing, analysis, reporting and visualization of maternal health data.
