I have grown so much as writer this semester. Power Quoting was an (often times) annoying battle; it seemed like I just couldn't get it right, but then it finally clicked. Our Romeo & Juliet Synthesis essay was where I really started to feel like - wow, I am getting better. The progress was slow at first, but I could tell a shift in my writing. Now I feel like my writing has reached a much higher place than it was in eighth grade. I have used my skills and continued to develop. At first, I felt defeated because my grades on essays were not as high as they were in middle school, but I started to see each paper as a challenge and tried to get better. I really feel like my writing has improved in lots of small ways that add up to much better essays.
In a complete paragraph (5-7 sentences), explain some areas of writing that you think you still need to improve on in the future. Be sure to discuss three specific goals for your writing next year.
My goals for essays next year are to continue to improve. I am proud that I feel like I am open to challenges in my writing. Writing essays used to be a death sentence for me and it's not like I flip cartwheels about them now, but I do feel like, "Okay, I can do this." Which is huge! I want to keep this mentality for next year. I would like to improve my Voice as a writer. I know it was an area that I couldn't really focus on this year, as my organization and TREES formatting took me awhile to grasp, but I feel like I am ready to take my writing to that next level for 10th grade English.
