Reflect. (5-7 sentences) What did you enjoy about class this semester? What did you not enjoy? What activities/assignments helped you to learn and grow as a reader and a writer this semester? What activities/assignments did not help you to learn and grow as a reader and a writer this semester?
I enjoyed getting to read. I liked how we got to choose a book to read during our IR time. Even though some of the assigned texts might not have been my first choices if I had to pick, they pushed me as a reader. I gained a lot of confidence as we went through Romeo & Juliet. The first time I read the prologue and Act 1 I was like, what even is this??? But towards Act 3 and into the end, I felt confident being able to at least understand what was going on. I felt really smart when I was able to read a Shakespeare sonnet and understand the overall message of the poem. I also enjoyed how much I grew as a writer. Through my teacher's feedback, I was able to push my writing from middle school to high school. Our research paper was really a big moment for me. Once I turned in my final draft, I was like, WOW> I did that. I was so proud and loved that I got choose a social issue I actually care about. That made a big difference. I honestly feel like all of the assignments we did, in some way, helped me grow as both a reader and a writer. Even the early assignments we did with story plots from the Pixar shorts helped me to start looking at the world around me for its hidden clues. I've learned there is a theme in EVERYTHING! Everything in life is meant to teach us something and this English class helped me to learn that.
