Discrimination and Harrassment Policies
The Albemarle County Public Schools is committed to maintaining an educational environment and workplace that are free from discrimination and harassment. School Board Policies GB, GBA/JFHA, outline the division’s commitment and procedures for the reporting and handling of complaints. In ACPS, students will be admitted, retained, dismissed, assigned, and/or transferred and be allowed to participate in all programs and activities in ACPS without regard to basis of race, color, creed, religion, national origin, ancestry, political affiliation, sex, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, age, pregnancy, childbirth or related medical conditions, marital status, military status, genetic information or disability, except as permitted by state or federal law.
The division superintendent shall take appropriate steps to implement and oversee this policy in accordance with federal and state laws and regulations, including:
1. Designating Title IX and Section 504 Coordinators and giving notice to parents/guardians, students, and
employees of their identity;
2. Establishing procedures for dealing with complaints and grievances alleging violations of this policy as
reported by any employee, student, or third party;
3. Training of employees on the policy and complaint procedures;
4. Publicizing this policy and the procedures for dealing with reported violations to the general public, to
parents/guardians, to students, and to all employees.
