Art as Resistance
The Harlem Renaissance and Progressive Era
The Harlem Renaissance and Progressive Era
“How can art be used as a tool for resistance as evident by the Progressive Era and/or the Harlem Renaissance?”
Art can be used as a tool to show recistance because art has a lot of meaning that could be behind because with Claude Mckay it was showing how poorly animals were being treated and all he did was write a poem to show that.
*This time period connects to our current generation because people still make art to show recistance just like in the BLM protest they painted on boards and were fighting for equal rights.
I just made one above.

My research came from nationalhumanitiescenter.org can for my birthdays and death dates I used google which was quick and simple
Langston Hughes was born on February 1st, 1902. He was a famous writer who made the "One Way Ticket" Poem. He died May 22, 1967. The "One Way Ticket" Poem, This poem represents that he is fed up with life and the Jim crow laws because they are cruel and is tired of running. This poem is showing resitance because it is showing that langston hughes was sick and tired of the Jim Crow Laws and how they treated African Americans. He moved everywhere until they removed the Jim Crow Laws.
Claude Mckay was born on Sempteber 15th, 1890. He wrote the "If we Die poem" He died on May 22nd 1948. His "If we Die" Poem represented resitance because it was showing how poorly animals were treated when they died and how he didn't wanna die like they did. Till this day animals are still killed in sad ways some die to cars. others die from being put down or shot. What I think Claude Mckay was trying to get at was to be rembered and not die in an harmful way.
The author I am talking about is Alaine Lock. The photo above is his poem about the Negro style. I'll Alain LeRoy Locke was born in Philadelphia, Pa on Sept. 13, 1886. Both his parents were schoolteachers. He died in New York City on June 9, 1954. His poem is talking about what happens to a dream deffered the poem is basically saying that what happens when a dream is deffered anything could happen but he just wants to know what happens when a person dreams gets deffered just like when the people of color dreams to take down the jim crow laws failed. In conclusion his poem was showing how a dream can get denied.
