All SPS students have a Google Account that follows the following format: studentIdNumber@k12.somerville.ma.us
This account can be used for G-Suite on any device that works with Google accounts, like computers, smartphones, tablets, and of course Chromebooks. The account can be used on personal as well as school-issued devices.
If a student does not know their student ID number, please contact their teacher.
All Chromebooks, whether they are personal or school-issued, will require you to sign in with a Google account first before you can use the device.
On a personal Chromebook, to sign in using your SPS student account you will need to type in the full account name, studentIdNumber@k12.somerville.ma.us.
On a school Chromebook, the @k12.somerville.ma.us is already filled in for you, all you will need to do is type in the studentIdNumber.
On the next screen you will put in the password.
If you are using a personal device instead of a school Chromebook all you have to do is log into your device and open a web browser (Google Chrome is recommended).
Go to Google.com and click on the ‘Sign In’ button in the top right. You will be prompted to type in an email which will be studentIdNumber@k12.somerville.ma.us and their password.
Once logged in you can click on the "grid" button in the top right to navigate to the other google apps like Google Docs and Google Classroom:
Google Chrome allows users to have multiple accounts signed into the browser simultaneously. This makes it easy to switch between school and personal accounts without having to sign out of one account and back into another.
To add a second account in Google Chrome:
1. Click on the icon that has your initials or profile photo, located in the top right of the window. This will open a small profile / settings menu.
2. Click on the “Add Account” button and then enter in the credentials for the account that you would like to add.
To switch between accounts within Google Chrome:
Click on the circular icon that contains your initials or your profile photo, which will open the settings / profile menu. The account located at the top of this menu is one that is currently active.
Click on the newly added account, which will switch to it.
