Military Recruitment

Title IX of the No Child Left Behind Act, Section 9528 that requires all federally funded schools to release student contact information annually to military recruiters. The information requested is student's first and last names, gender, address, telephone number, email address, school name, and graduation year.

Parents have a legal right to opt out of these disclosures to military recruiters. Such opt out requests must be in writing.

The United States Code (20 USC 7908) states:

A parent of a secondary school student may submit a written request, to the local educational agency, that the student’s name, address, and telephone listing not be released… without prior written consent of the parent. Upon receiving such request, the local educational agency may not release the student’s name, address, and telephone listing for such purposes without the prior written consent of the parent.

When a student reaches the age of 18, any prior requests expire and they must file their own exemption request.

Exemption request can be sent to the front office or via email to the counselor.

Please note that this is not an exemption from registering in the draft via the Selective Service System.
