Hello All!
Thanks for checking this section out. I wanted to provide information about myself so you get the chance to be nosy about the person who gets the opportunity to help your kiddos out. It's scary trusting a stranger with that big feat, so without further ado.
My name is Alannah. I grew up in Baltic, SD. After high school, I moved to Edmond, OK where I attended both Oklahoma State University and the University of Central Oklahoma. I obtained my Bachelor of Arts from UCO in Sociology-Human Services and have minor endorsements in Psychology, Biology, Chemistry, and Secondary Science Education.
Why the science stuff if you're a counselor? Well, even though I've known since I was a junior in high school that this was the career for me, I wasn't sure where I wanted to go after I was done with college. Some states require you to teach before you can be a counselor (namingly, Texas since I was just across the boarder in OK) and I wanted to make sure all of my bases were covered. That, and I truly just LOVE learning.
I met my husband, Tyler, in 2018. He is also from South Dakota. When I graduated from college in 2020, I moved back to Sioux Falls. I enrolled in the School Counseling Master's Program at USD the following fall and graduated in August of 2022.
My previous experiences include student teaching in the greater OKC area, a practicum field experience with elementary students at Garretson Elementary, and an internship at West Central Middle/High School. I also was a long-term substitute for the Tea Area School District.
