The Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems Specialist (OWTSS) Certificate prepares students for a dynamic career working on cesspool conversions and replacements. There is legislation that states that all cesspools must be removed and replaced with more sustainable options by 2050. There are 88,000 cesspools across the Hawaiian islands, with more than 50,000 on Hawaiʻi Island, which pollute our groundwater and pose risks to human and marine health. As an OWTSS, you will work alongside engineers and contractors doing cesspool conversions. This certificate is 23 credits and can be achieved in one year. This is a great opportunity for students who are interested in trade school and are environmentally minded.
