MLSL Transitions Toolkit
During the 2024–2025 school year, more than 300 middle-level student leaders across Hawaiʻi—representing grades 6th through 8th—shared their insights, creativity, and leadership to strengthen how schools support students moving through key educational transitions: from elementary to middle school and from middle to high school. Their collaboration resulted in the MLSL Transitions Toolkit, a resource designed by students, for students to ensure every learner feels prepared, welcomed, and connected during these important milestones.
This Toolkit gathers their best ideas, sample activities, and proven strategies for creating orientations, site visits, ambassador programs, and belonging-building events at schools statewide. Available to all HIDOE middle-level schools, it serves as both a guide and an inspiration for student leaders to take action in making transitions smoother, more inclusive, and grounded in Hawaiʻi’s values of aloha, responsibility, and community.
