MLSL Student Panel Application: “Transitions” Discussion
"Transitions" continues to be a focal point for Hawaiʻi Department of Education schools, as aligned with the Strategic Plan. While adults often share their perspectives about these important stages in a learner’s journey, this panel invites middle level student leaders (grades 6–8) to share their voices and experiences at the annual MLSL Summit.

Student panel discussion on how schools support transitions from elementary to middle school and from middle to high school.
👥 Who Can Apply
Any 6th–8th grade student who:
Attended the MLSL Transitioneers Event at Aulani on September 19, 2025, AND
Will be registered as part of their school’s “Team of 10” or "Presentation Team" for the MLSL 2026 Summit.

💬 Why Student Voice Matters
Student voice is an essential part of school improvement and decision-making. Panelists will share their experiences, insights, and ideas about how schools can better support transitional phases for students.
Panel Focus Topics:
What’s working at your school to support new and outgoing students.
How your school is using the MLSL Transitions Toolkit.
Audience Q&A (time permitting) facilitated by student MCs.
🧭 Advisor Screening Criteria
Before submitting an application, SACs/Advisors should ensure the student:
Is in good standing with grades and behavior.
Communicates clearly and confidently with a microphone.
Can think on their feet and respond to impromptu questions.
Respects “equity of voice” so all panelists have equal airtime.
📋 Application Requirements
Student attended the Sept. 19th Aulani event and is part of the Team of 10 for the MLSL 2026 Summit.
A signed HIDOE Media Release Form from parent/guardian.
A 30-second video clip responding to:
"State your name, grade, and school, followed by your response to:
Why is student voice important in supporting ‘Transitions’ at your school?"
