Aloha and Welcome to Lanakila Elementary School
Lanakila Elementary is in the Liliha-Palama area, nestled amidst small businesses, churches, community service organizations and residences. Our vision, “Inspiring kind, caring and collaborative leaders who will make a positive impact on the world" guides us as we work together to achieve our school goals. Our school mission is to empower leaders, embrace diversity and enhance relationships to support a quality education and collective growth.
Lanakila’s educational programs provide for all children – gifted/talented, disadvantaged, special education, limited English proficiency and early childhood. We believe that all students can and want to learn and that a public school education can provide the foundation for a productive future. The professional school staff provides high quality standards-based instruction with the support of active and meaningful parent participation and community support.
Lanakila Elementary School was established in 1925 and has had an illustrious history. The literal translation of “lanakila” is victorious, triumphant, prevailing and conqueror. It is a noble title for the area of land upon which our school is located. This area was named in honor of the victory of Kamehameha the Great over enemy soldiers in the battle of Nu’uanu. In recognition of our history, “Chiefs” was selected as our school mascot.
