Health Careers Academy Advisory & PTP

This website will serve as the Academy’s landing page for this year’s Advisory and PTP. Each week, you’ll find grade-level-specific instructions that include what you’ll be doing, where to report, and important reminders. Be sure to review the information for your correct grade level, as content is organized by 10th, 11th, and 12th grade. There will be times during the year when you'll meet in your Advisory/PTP teacher's classroom and other times when you will not. Be sure you know where you need to be each week.

This activity will help you understand that success in a healthcare career isn’t just about what you know—it’s also about how well you take care of yourself. You’ll explore the different parts of total well-being and see how they affect your ability to focus, make decisions, and care for others. By the end, you’ll reflect on your own well-being and choose one small step you can take to improve it.

Welcome back, Health Careers Academy 10th and 11th graders!

As we begin Quarter 4—the final stretch of the school year—take a moment to recognize how far you’ve already come. This is your opportunity to finish strong, stay focused, and show the growth you’ve made throughout the year.

In the health careers field, perseverance, dedication, and resilience matter. The habits you build now—showing up, staying committed, and pushing through challenges—are the same qualities that will make you successful in any healthcare profession.

As you move through this last quarter, set clear goals, stay organized, and support one another. Remember, strong finishes don’t happen by chance—they come from consistent effort and a positive mindset. Even small steps forward each day can lead to big accomplishments.

Keep your eyes on your goals, believe in your ability to succeed, and give your best effort all the way to the finish line. You’ve got this!

Today's Activity: Total Well-Being Reflection Activity

This SEL activity is designed to help students develop self-awareness by reflecting on their mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. It encourages them to recognize patterns in their habits, choices, and relationships, and to take ownership of small actions that support growth. Ultimately, the purpose is to help students build the skills and mindset needed to care for themselves and contribute positively to their family, school, and community.

In healthcare, doing the bare minimum is not enough. Patients depend on healthcare professionals not just to complete tasks, but to care, notice details, communicate clearly, and act responsibly—even during simple or routine moments. Excellence in healthcare means going beyond what is required to ensure safety, trust, and quality care.

In this activity, you will explore what work excellence really looks like in healthcare settings. You’ll analyze real-life scenarios, compare “minimum effort” to professional excellence, and reflect on your own habits as a student and future healthcare worker. As you work through each section, think about this question: What kind of professional do you want to be when someone’s health is in your hands?

After the fire drill, Mr. Okoji and Ms. Suma will host a workshop on what steps to take if you are considering continuing your education at a post-secondary institution next school year. If you are considering entering the workforce full-time, the workshop will also cover the actions you should be taking now and in the coming months.
