Background Information

The Health Careers Academy of Kapolei's mission is to develop self-sufficient, empathetic, and confident individuals prepared for the real world.

Recognizing a gap in providing students opportunities to market themselves for healthcare employment, despite robust skill training and certifications, the Academy conceived a senior hiring event.

Purpose of Health Careers Academy Hiring Event

The purpose of this opportunity for our high school seniors is a valuable experience for several reasons:

Real-world experience: It simulates a real-world event, allowing students to practice their networking and interviewing skills
Sense of preparedness: By participating in the event, students feel more prepared and confident about their transition from high school to the workforce.
Exposure to potential employers: Students can connect with potential employers, learn about career opportunities, and meet potential hires to fill vacancies in current businesses and organizations.

Event Timeline

8:30 am - 8:50 am

Participating businesses/organizations will arrive at Kapolei High School. Each participating organization will be provided a designated space in the classroom to set up as their hiring event booth for the event.

9 am - 9:05 am

Academy teachers will need about 5 minutes to conduct the class business opening and any final preparations for the event.

9:05 am - 9:35 am

Speed Dating: Students will participate in brief, small-group interactions with representatives from each participating organization. Each business/organization will have a 7-minute time slot per round to share information about their organization. After 7 minutes, groups will rotate to the next organization. This process will continue until all student groups have had the opportunity to interact with each organization.

9:35 am - 10:05 am

Booth Visits: Students will have the opportunity to revisit the organization booths to gather additional information and discuss potential employment opportunities further.

Additionally, students interested in scheduling follow-up interviews can do so between 11:55 AM and 12:40 PM.

10:05 am - 10:15 am

Closing Activity: Academy teachers will need about 10 minutes to close today’s activity.

Academy teachers will need about 10 minutes to conduct the class business opening and any final preparations for the event.

10:35 am -11:05 am

11:05 am - 11:35 am

Follow-Up Visits: Mahalo to our healthcare organization for offering to answer any follow-up questions and schedule appointments for our students. We will provide an appointment signup sheet for any students who wish to return to the Health Careers Academy. If students do not wish to return, healthcare organizations may use this time to enjoy lunch, provided to our healthcare organizations.

At the Security Guard Booth/Shack, hang right and you’ll be entering the KHS Administration Parking Lot or Cafeteria Parking Lot.

The Health Careers Academy has arranged for a group check-in.

Please wait in front of the Admin Building (Front Office) for Courtney Suma to escort you to the Health Careers Academy to assist with setup.
